Yes — if the phone takes an eSIM and is not locked to a carrier, a roaming data eSIM works without PTA registration. PTA’s DIRBS FAQ says users on roaming keep using their phones without registration, and that registration is what a local SIM calls for. What you get is the internet: no Pakistani number, no calls, no SMS.
What an eSIM is, and how this works
In Apple’s own words, "An eSIM is an industry-standard digital SIM built into your iPhone, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card." You get a QR code, scan it, and the profile downloads onto the phone.
An eJugaar eSIM arrives as roaming: the data runs on the Jazz network, but your line is not a Pakistani local line. Everything else follows from that one difference.
Why it works without registration
PTA’s DIRBS FAQ is clear on two points: an unregistered phone gets 60 days of service once a local SIM goes in and none after that, and users on roaming carry on using their phones without registering.
That does not make the phone registered. Its standing is unchanged; what stops is local SIM service, and roaming data is a different thing. The 60 days in full are in this guide.
Three conditions
- The phone has eSIM hardware. We checked every model for the list; per Apple, US iPhone 14 models and later are eSIM-only anyway.
- The phone is not locked to a carrier (JV). The difference, and how to check, is here.
- Data Roaming is ON for that line. It is a roaming eSIM, and this is the step most people miss.
What you get, and what you do not
- You get: the internet, WhatsApp messages and calls, browsing, maps, YouTube, email. More in the WhatsApp guide.
- You do not get: a Pakistani number, ordinary calls, SMS — and so no bank OTP.
- Cost: every pack’s size, days and price is on the plans page, and when the data runs out a top-up goes onto the same profile.
- Timing: the QR arrives on WhatsApp and by email once the payment is confirmed.
Before you buy, and after
Two minutes before buying: look the model up in the phone list and run the lock test. Those two are where the money gets wasted.

Questions
Does this register my phone with PTA?
No. It carries the internet and nothing else. Registration is something you do through PTA and FBR’s own systems; we play no part in it.
Can I keep my old SIM in the phone?
Yes. Just set mobile data to the eJugaar line, or the phone keeps looking for the internet on the old one.
Does it work on every phone?
No. The phone needs eSIM hardware and must not be carrier-locked. Both can be checked before you pay.
What happens when the data runs out?
A top-up goes onto the same eSIM, with no new QR. The one thing to watch is that a top-up is not possible once the plan has expired.

Data-only plans start at Rs 380. Check your phone first: if it cannot take an eSIM, we will say so before you pay.
