Dial *#06# on your iPhone 12 mini. If an EID appears alongside the IMEI, the phone has an eSIM. No EID, no eSIM — there is no surer test.
One more thing: the phone must not be carrier-locked (JV). Do check this on a second-hand or imported set — no eSIM installs on a carrier-locked phone, and it is not refundable.
