Check the version — eSIM support on the P40 depends on the unit. Check the exact regional model, its eSIM settings or EID, and its carrier-lock status before buying. An EID alone does not confirm that another carrier's eSIM can be installed.
What is particular about the P40
Huawei sells the P40 in two shapes: the Single SIM unit has a nano-SIM and an eSIM, and the Dual SIM unit has two nano-SIM slots and no eSIM at all. Their own spec sheet says so, and the box does not — the EID does.

What this means for a non-PTA P40
eJugaar provides roaming data, not a Pakistani local SIM. A manufacturer’s eSIM listing establishes hardware support; the exact variant, carrier unlock and current service conditions still need to be checked before purchase.
It is data only. Calls, SMS and a Pakistani number are not included. Bank OTPs need a separate working SMS number; buying this data profile does not restore an inactive line. Internet calling apps use the data connection.

Check your phone in one minute
Dial *#06# on your P40. If an EID appears alongside the IMEI, it helps identify eSIM hardware. Also check the exact regional model, Add eSIM controls and carrier unlock. A missing EID on this screen needs a settings or manufacturer check.
One more thing: the phone must not be carrier-locked (JV). For another provider’s eSIM, confirm unlock with the original carrier before buying, especially on a second-hand or imported set. How to tell a JV phone from a non-PTA one.
How to install an eSIM on a Huawei phone

- Check compatibility and connect to WiFi
- Settings → Mobile network → SIM management
- Use the issuer QR or manual details
- Enable the line and select it for Mobile data
- Allow roaming for eJugaar data
- Test a small webpage with WiFi off
